Cappella Sansevero (Veiled Christ)
Via Francesco de Sanctis, 19/21, 80134 Napoli NA, Italy
Hidden in the historic center, the Cappella Sansevero houses the world-famous Cristo Velato (Veiled Christ), a marble sculpture so delicate the veil appears transparent. Commissioned in the 18th century by Prince Raimondo di Sangro, the chapel is filled with symbolism, mystery, and extraordinary craftsmanship. The Veiled Christ alone is worth the trip to Naples and is considered one of the most breathtaking sculptures ever created. However, there are other delicate sculptures around the periphery of the chapel, enhancing an already unique experience.
If you want to go, book tickets in advance — it frequently sells out days ahead. You will have to select your time slot, and make sure you're on time. Because each time tends to fill up, you probably won't be able to get in if you're late. Also, this chapel is privately owned, so the tickets are more expensive than you would pay for one of the regional museums, and there are no free Sundays for this chapel.
