A Beer Lover's Guide to Napoli
Ah, Napoli. The land of pizza, Aperol Spritz, and wine... except that vision makes beer lovers feel left out, without a pint of quality beer to be found. Well, never fear! Naples is (like many places these days) home to a growing craft brewery scene, and while it may not rival countries like Belgium or Germany, the region has plenty of options to choose from. Whether you want a hearty ale, a light hefeweisen, or a hoppy IPA, there are a variety of styles for any beer lover to choose from.
In this guide, we'll look at the typical Italian beers you'll find everywhere, introduce you to some of the local craft breweries, and give you an idea of where to find and taste the local brews. I've tried to include a variety of spots to satisfy all tastes, but if we're missing your favorite watering hole, let me know!
Beer in Naples: A Quick Overview
Southern Italy has an almost unrivaled agricultural tradition, which feeds its reputation for mouth-watering food and delicious wine. Although brewing beer has also been a part of that tradition for thousands of years, the burgeoning craft beer industry is taking those authentic, local flavors and incorporating them into new beers. While the Neapolitan beer scene has long been dominated by national Italian brews, these upstart breweries are starting to make a name for themselves inside and outside of Italy.
In general, draft beers come in 0.33 or 0.5 cl sizes, and you can expect to pay somewhere between 4 and 8 Euros per beer. Many places will have a few national brands on tap, plus a few taps with local craft beers. Don't expect to see many places with a large number of beers on tap; it's more common to see 4 to 6 taps in most bars and restaurants. Remember, most Italians still prefer wine, mixed drinks, or the most common Italian beer brands.
Popular Italian Beer Brands You'll Find Everywhere in Napoli
Below are four beers that you will find in many bars around Naples. These are the Miller, Coors, and Bud Lights of Italian bars; you'll find them everywhere, but (in my opinion) these basic beers are way better those comparable U.S. brands.
Peroni
Style: Lager
ABV: 4.7%
Brewery Location: Originally founded in Vigevano, Italy; now headquartered in Rome
Flavor Profile: Clean, refreshing, crisp lager with alight malt body and corn or grain influence; sweet and smooth rather than hop-forward

Peroni Nastro Azzurro
Style: European pale lager
ABV: 5.1%
Brewery Location: Originally founded in Vigevano, Italy; now headquartered in Rome
Flavor Profile: Fuller body than the standard Peroni lager, with more corn grits and malt for a grain-forward impression
Food Pairings: Similar to Peroni: pizza, seafood, light pasta, and chicken
Ichnusa Non Filtrata
Style: Unfiltered lager
ABV: 5%
Brewery Location: Originally from Sardinia
Flavor Profile: Crisp lager with a richer taste profile due to its “unfiltered” nature
Food Pairings: Fried snacks, grilled chicken, seafood, other traditional Italian dishes
Leffe Blonde
Style: Belgian abbey blonde ale
ABV: 6.6%
Brewery Location: Leuven, Belgium
Flavor Profile: Golden and sweet with yeast/bread notes, light hops, and fruit; finish is dry
Food Pairings: Cheese, chicken, seafood, desserts with fruit or vanilla
Campania's Best Craft Breweries
Here are three local Campania breweries whose beers you can find throughout the city. They are some of the leaders in the craft brew innovation throughout southern Italy, so give their brews a try.
KBirr
KBirr was founded in 2016, focusing on creating a Neapolitan beer identity; the name KBirr is a play on the Italian “che birra” (a beer) and the beer names are locally themed (e.g., Natavota, Jattura, Paliata, #Cuoredinapoli, PullicenHell). Their tasting room was revamped in 2025 to offer a larger multifunctional space, incorporating designs and ideas from local artists. KBirr has three lines of beers: their Pop Line, People Line, and Premium Line.
KBirr focuses on putting a Neapolitan spin on internationally recognized beer styles, such as lagers, red ales, Scotch ales, imperial stouts, and American pale ales. Their tasting room is located outside of the city of Naples, but you can find their beers in beer stores and restaurants throughout the region.
Birrificio Sorrento
Birrificio Sorrento was started in 2009 as a home-brewing project before scaling up to a craft brewery. The beers focus on using local ingredients like lemons, oranges, and walnuts, to infuse the surrounding “territory” in the beer's flavor profile. The tap room is located in Sorrento, so it it will take some time to get there from Napoli.
Birrifico Sorrento focuses more on ales, with pale and amber ales containing citrus flavors and darker ales incorporating nuts and other flavors. It's easiest to find their beer on the Sorrento peninsula, but their beer can also be found in shops around the Napoli region.
Birrifico Artigianale Napoletano (N’Artigiana)
Birrifico Artigianale Napoletano (N’Artigiana) was the first craft brewery with its own production plant and laboratory in Naples. The brewery cites the Neapolitan heritage and food as the inspiration for its beers. The brewery is east of downtown and the train station, but the taps are not regularly open to the public.
N'Artigiana flagship beers include lagers, ales, and red ales to pair with traditional Neapolitan cuisine, a white beer for aperitivo, and several specialty beers, including an alcohol-free variant. Their beers can be found throughout the city in restaurants and pizzerias such as Sandro Pizzettata.
